read wheel sensors for odometry

how can i read wheel sensors for using in odometry ?

i want to read whether moved each motor

what do i send in command ?

also hear there is /robot.cgi?$e_ - read wheel encoder 1, 2, 3 or 4

but always show me zero.

and if i try to send "$E" this found from http://www.surveyor.com/SRV_protocol.html again the result is zero.

why ?

There is a forum on the Surveyor website - ask there. Those guys did the hardware/firmware you are referring to, so they know better about it.

i have done already this but they were not sure if robot has encoders

from the other side it seems strange how this robot works don't have feedback ?

and they said me to use other technics
